Skipsea Castle Hill

Skipsea Castle Hill Details
Skipsea Castle Hill is a massive Iron Age burial mound repurposed as a ditched motte in the C11. An accompanying bailey defended with a substantial ditch and bank is separated from the mound by 100 metres of flooded marshland crossed by a causeway. The castle was slighted in the 13th century on the orders of King Henry III. It is now managed by English Heritage and is free to access.
