Manafon Motte

Manafon motte is a denuded ditched motte on a sloping site overlooking the Afon Rhiw. The site is contained within the grounds of a caravan park so permission should be obtained to access the monument – it is not visible from the public roads. A possible bailey site is occupied by farm buildings, but the topography doesn’t quite add up as the motte would be lower than the bailey. Moat Farm has been known by that name since the 19th century, indicating a motte should be here – but it is hard to identify.
