Loughor Castle is a ruined stone castle on a prominent mound overlooking the village of Loughor and the estuary of that river, which was notorious for treacherous crossings in the medieval period. The castle is maintained by Cadw as a tourist attraction, and it is open at all times. What remains on the mound is the shattered remains of a tower-keep which occupied the edge of the motte, which itself occupied one corner of the earthworks of a Roman fort. There was an outer enclosure to the west, presumably also created using teh fort earthworks, but it is obscured by later buildings today, including the parish church.
