Llys Gwenllian

Llys Gwenllian is a motte and bailey castle overlooking a complex confluence of watercourses with the Afon Ystrad. The motte is small in comparison with the bailey, and LIDAR imagery suggests that the earthworks of the bailey, which strengthen the natural slopes to the site by creating a bank and ditch part way up the slope, extend around the outside of the motte as well. This would imply that the motte was a later addition. The bailey is almost entirely occupied with farm buildings, and access to the motte would be through the farmyard, meaning permission would be required to access it.
