Llowes Castle Tump Details

Llowes Castle Tump, e/w of ditched mound on the edge of a former channel of the Wye

  • Closest To: Hay on Wye
  • Access: No Access
  • Grid Reference: SO191407

Llowes Castle Tump is a sub circular ditched enclosure sitting above the River Wye. There is no suggestion of a bailey, and LIDAR shows there are extensive amounts of changes in the river’s course nearby – although none that suggest the enclosure ever sat on the south/east side of the Wye. The site is flanked by agricultural fields and permission must be sought from the farmer to access it – a farm track does pass adjacent to the mound.
