Llanhilleth Motte

Llanhilleth Motte is a large ditched motte sitting adjacent to a working farmyard on high land near St Illtyd’s Church. There is no evidence of a bailey, and LIDAR shows that the motte has been slightly mutilated to the north-east. The other side of the church are the bizarre complex of remains known as Castell Taliorum, which presumably was the replacement for the motte. There is no evidence of a bailey, but the concrete of the farmyard may occupy the site. The mound is fenced off, but easily visible from the public road.
