Llangwathan Motte

Llangwathan Motte is a modest mound with evidence of a ditch, and is to be found adjacent to the Afon Marlais, a tributary of the Taf. The site is covered by trees and is not visible from the public roads, so permission must be obtained to access it. The surrounding land is boggy and it is likely that the river provided a degree of security – but with no bailey or church nearby it seems likely this was a fairly low-key site.
