Llanddew Palace is a ruined stone courtyard castle erected for the Bishops of Str Davids in the 12th century, Today it is in private gardens, but public funding was used to stabilise it so access is permitted, but not encouraged, by the landowner. The site sits above a holy well and near the parish church in the centre of the village, which overlooks the Afon Rhonddu. The most significant parts of the ruin are an arched gateway by the entrance to the vicarage, and the ruined hall-block to eth rear of the house, of which three sides survive in part.
