  • Closest To: Cowbridge, Llantwit Major, Cardiff
  • Access: Occasional Access
  • Grid Reference: ST054734

Liege Castle is a rectangular ditched enclosure associated with an outer enclosure roughly four times the size, on top of a low hill between the upper reaches of the Nant Llancarfan and the Nant Llantrithyd in Glamorgan. It lies within agricultural land, and cannot be seen from public roads, so permission should be gained from the farm if you wish to look closer at it. Although the Ordnance Survey refers to the site as Roman – and in fact the “Liege” is a corruption of “Legion” there is no evidence of Roman occupation here.
