Kenfig Castle is a ruined tower-keep of the 12th century which is largely overgrown by gorse and buried beneath sand. It has an associated town which was enclosed within a bank and wet ditch – also buried beneath the sand dunes, and both were the subject of a Time Team visit. It was maintained into the 14th century by the earls of Gloucester, and then until the later parts of the 15th century, by which time the castle may have been abandoned, and the town was quickly disappearing beneath the sand.
