Kemeys Castle Details

Kemeys Castle, e/w of small motte & bailey on riverside location at top of steep slope

  • Closest To: Tredunnock, Caerleon
  • Access: No Access
  • Grid Reference: ST390939

Kemeys CastleĀ is a badly damaged earthwork that has been interpreted as a motte and bailey, although the site has been eroded on one side by erosion from the River Usk and the other by the construction of a road over the site. It is in fact possible that the motte is in fact the last vestige of a ringwork, it cannot be determined for certain. The site is not accessible to the public, but the road is immediately adjacent so the height of the earthwork can be appreciated.
