Irthington; The Nook Details

Irthington The Nook is a motte with no evidence of masonry structures on top hidden behind modern buildings which possibly recall an earlier bailey shape. It was the seat of the barony of Gilsland until the mid 14th century and reportedly had a stone tower, but nothing survives of this.
