Inverallochy Castle is a ruined tower house in a field south of Fraserburgh overlooking land which was once a loch. The castle is fenced off within the field, which was flooded when I passed by, so I dont know if you can get in or not…

Inverallochy was within the barony of Kingedward, anciently part of the earldom of Buchan, and a castle was already here when the lands were sold by Alexander Cummyn to Alexander Irvine of Drum in 1483. This may have been part of a dispute between the two men as King James IV granted it back to the Cummyns in 1504, but maybe a different branch of the family. If the tower was not built by this time William Cummyn probably built it; it was subsequently extended by the addition of a rhomboid courtyard with buildings down two sides. The family lost Inverallochy to the Frasers of Lovat in 1616, possibly due to the failure of the male line, and it remained with the Frasers until their forfeiture for Jacobite support in the 18th century. By this time the castle may have been in decline, and it was probably abandoned.
