Hay Tump is a small ditched motte overlooking a small stream in a steep sided valley at the southern end of the town of Hay. There is no evidence for a bailey – but the most likely site is now occupied by the cattle market. It is only a matter of 200 metres from Hay Castle, which makes contemporary occupation seem unlikely, although there were two manors within the lands of Hay in the medieval period. As the summit was damaged by installing defences in the Second World War, it is unlikely any evidence remains on the summit.
