Gwyddgrug Castle is the name given to a prominent natural mound on the farm of Castell, overlooking the Afon Gwyddgrug. The mound has been quarried for building materials, and there are no comprehensible remains of defences here that can be interpreted as a castle. Whilst the site is naturally well-defended, and a likely place for a stronghold, the lack of evidence may indicate that it was more domestic in nature, especially since Gwyddgrug was a grange of Talley abbey from the time of Rhys Gryg.
