Gwern y Domen is a slightly mis-shapen round motte erected on low lying ground overlooking the Afon Rhymni. It is immediately adjacent to the mainline railway, and it is possible that the earthwork to the south beyond the railway is a mutilated bailey area. There is no evidence of a ditch on LIDAR imagery, and the site is overgrown by trees, so is not possible to see from the public road. The top of the mound appears to have been landscaped, with a regular bank around the perimeter. There is no obvious access points as the area is protected by drainage ditches and the railway.
