Gro Tump is a large and impressive ditched motte with mutilated outer earthworks that may represent the remains of a bailey defended by a ditch and bank. (The mutilation is part of the golf club landscaping). It is sited at the east of Newtown, within the golf course, and abuts onto the River Severn. Access to the castle ought to be through the golf club, but there is also a footpath running along the edge that gives good views of the motte.
