Evenjobb Motte

Evenjobb Motte is a mutilated ditched motte situated in the centre of the village, and part of the likely bailey has now been built over by the houses of Castlebrooke Gardens. It was excavated before these houses were built, which produced confirmation of it being a motte type castle. At the other end of the village is Dunn’s Lane, where another mound is described as a low ditched motte with other earthworks associated with a mill and ponds in the monuments record. However, what appears on LIDAR at the location given is a small round ditch, the motte being entirely levelled. The motte in the village is overgrown by trees and not clearly visible although the road runs adjacent.
