Erddig Castle is a large motte and bailey castle on a promontory site within the grounds of Erddig Park, which is owned by the National Trust. The location is naturally strong, and the castle was constructed to make good use of these. It is probably this castle referred to as the castle of Wristleham in 1161. The site is covered with mature trees and not visible from public roads, but Erddig is well provided with facilities and is open to the public for a fee.
