Dyserth Castle was an impressive stone castle built on top of the prominent hill overlooking the lowlands east of the River Clwyd. It was short-lived, and was destroyed by the native Welsh after a long siege. It was never rebuilt, being replaced by Edward I with Rhuddlan, and was probably used as a quarry for building materials. However the most significant damage was done in the 20th century, when almost the entire site was destroyed when the hill was quarried away. Today the fragmentary remains are hidden within private gardens, and cannot be seen by the public apart from some blocks of masonry which still survive here and there around the quarry.
