Dolwyddelan Castle is a ruined 13th century castle consisting of two rectangular towers and a courtyard between. One of these towers was restored and embellished in the 19th century. It is open to the public and maintained by Cadw. The castle replaced an earlier site across the valley, and was repaired for Edward I after damage during the Welsh wars of that king. It remained in use into the 15th century before being abandoned. It is a prominent landmark visible clearly from the main road.
