Dolforwyn Castle is a historically important castle erected for Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in the late 13th century along with a newly founded market town. It is maintained by Cadw, and open to the public, although parking is limited and there is a stiff climb to the site. The castle is a rectangular courtyard with a defensive ditch and a tower-keep at the end; the ruins survive to a reasonable height. It was repaired and updated by the Mortimers, but later fell into disuse and was abandoned by the 15th century.
