Dolbenmaen Castle

Dolbenmaen Castle is a large and impressive ditched motte that protects a ford of the Afon Dwyfor, and can be seen from public roads; however closer access is only possible with the permission of the landowner. It lies opposite the old church of Dolbenmaen, and a house built near the base may lie on the site of a medieval building, perhaps a memory of an earlier llys site. The motte has a pronounced rampart around the edge, and there is some suggestion of buildings on the summit.
