Dinerth Castle is on a fortified promontory that contains the remains of at least three phases of occupation by Welsh and English in the 12th century, being finally destroyed in 1202. Double ramparts and ditches protect the remains, and are suggestive of earlier use. References to a motte and bailey are bogus, and it seems that the unexcavated castle here was a tower or hall defended by ditches within the more massive earthworks to the east. The site is covered by woods, surrounded by agricultural fields, and some way from public roads, and it is by no means clear how the site would be accessed – but permission would definitely need to be obtained.
