Dinefwr Castle is a well preserved courtyard and keep of the Welsh princes of Deheubarth, remodelled in the 14th century. It is renowned as the seat of the Lord Rhys, which is questionable, and was probably a llys site of the dynasty. An outer area that seems to be an outer bailey was in fact a fledgling borough which did not flourish. The castle is managed by Cadw but lies within the grounds of Dinefwr Park, which is a National trust property. Access is therefore possible at a fee, but it is a reasonable walk to reach the castle from the NT car park.
