Dinas Powys Castle

Dinas Powys Castle is a ruined courtyard castle and keep built on top of an isolated hill just outside the settlement of Dinas Powys – which is not in Powys but just outside Cardiff. It may have replaced a fort on Newland Hill which produced C12 pottery. The castle is a tall rectangular courtyard with a simple gate in the SE end, and a rectangular tower-keep attached to the NW end. A community-led project tried to acquire and maintain it, but ran into difficulties, and now the hill is fenced off with signs saying there is no public access.
