Cyfarthfa Castle is a 19th century castellated mansion built for the Crawshay family, who were major players in the iron industry, There was no pre-existing structure here, and the residential use was ended after 80 years when sold to the local authority. It was converted to become a museum, art gallery and school – and the major rooms have now been converted to serve as a museum and art gallery.
