Crickhowell Castle is a ruined stone castle erected on a motte and bailey. It is open to the public at all times and the bailey contains a childrens playpark. It is built on a piece of land which projects over the River Usk, and has good views both ways up and down the valley. The stone remains are not straightforward – scant remains of the shell keep on top of the motte, part of a twin towered gatehouse leading up to the motte, and two conjoined towers, perhaps the primary residential building.
