Clyro Castle is an impressive ditched ringwork sited on top of a ridge that has been truncated by modern roads. The castle is overgrown by trees, but visible from the road when the leaves are gone, and it is publicly accessible via a stile. There is evidence of a masonry wall being on the summit suggesting a shell-keep during a second phase of use, but revetting has also been suggested. The castle was probably not much used from the 14th century onwards, but was refortified during the Glyndwr revolt.
