Cilwhybert Motte, e/w of ditched motte upon a spur. ?Bailey occupied by farm
- Closest To: Brecon
- Access: Occasional Access
- Grid Reference: SO015268
Cilwhybert Motte is an impressive and well-preserved ditched motte which is immediately adjacent to the public road and clearly visible. It overlooks the confluence of a minor watercourse with the Afon Tarell, a tributary of the Usk, and was probably built as an outlying post associated with the conquest of Brycheiniog. No remnant of a bailey survives, and if there was one, it was probably on the site of the farmhouse adjacent to the motte.
