Cilgerran Castle is an impressive 13th century courtyard castle on a river promontory above the Afon Teifi near Cardigan. It is managed by Cadw and is open as a tourist attraction for a fee. The castle was founded in the 12th century and exchanged hands many times; it was not well maintained after the Welsh wars of Edward I, and was unoccupied and in disrepair as early as 1325. It is an excellent little castle to visit, although parking in the village is limited.
