Cenarth Motte

Cenarth Motte is a well preserved ditched motte with no evidence of a bailey sitting next to and above St Llawddog’s church. The castle guards a ford across the Afon Teifi immediately downstream from a river-gorge. It lies within the lands of Emlyn, and may be the site of the “old castle” that preceded that built at Newcastle Emlyn. The motte sits in fields that have no obvious access, so permission should be sought before attempting to access it.
