Castell nos Motte

Castell Nos Motte is to be found on a steep sided sandstone crag overlooking the valley of the Rhondda Fach. The crag is naturally defensive, and the southern end has been scarped to create an upper enclosure, which is then isolated by a ditch. In concept this is a motte and bailey castle, as part of the summit is then defended by a second ditch, but it is small in scale. The inner ditch has suggestions of a drawbridge support as a square stone foundation in it. Access is likely to be via public footpaths nearby, but the site may be fenced off for safety reasons.
