Castell Foel-allt was a motte and bailey castle overlooking the River Lugg, an important tributary of the Wye which provides access deep into the Welsh March. It appears to have been modified at a later date, with a ditch cutting across the old bailey area, and other atypical earthworks. It was near here that the Battle of Pilleth (aka Bryn Glas) was fought in the early 15th century, an important victory for Owain Glyndwr.
