Castell Caemaerdy is a small mound constructed on a west-facing slope overlooking the Wye valley. It has been referred to as a motte since the 19th century, but it is very small and there are no signs of additional features such as a ditch, although it is possible that it started out as a burial mound, and for a short while it was utilised as a lookout point. It has spectacular views, and may have been adapted as a viewing platform for 18th century Cefndyrys House.
