Carlisle Castle Details

Carlisle Castle is a large castle of three wards founded in 1092 by William II, and rebuilt in stone for David I of Scotland. It remained one of the principal royal castles in the north, and was repeatedly upgraded and repaired, remaining a garrison fort and armoury into the 20th century.
