Caldicot Castle is an impressive stone castle that is maintained by the local authority and open as a public park and visitor attraction. Starting out as a motte and bailey, it was soon strengthened in stone, and remained in use up to the 16th century. It was dismantled after being used against Parliament in the Civil war, and then suffered stone robbing. Today there are often re-enactment events at the castle.
