Caer Beris

Caer Beris is a well-preserved ditched motte with a possible associated bailey sited on high ground overlooking a tight loop in the River Irfon. The putative bailey site is occupied by a large private house, and the mound is within the grounds, so there is no access to the public. It may have been the original castle of Builth predating the royal castle in the town itself, and it is possible that the motte was crowned by a shell keep.
