Bryn Ffanigl is the name of an estate which was held by the steward Ednyfed Fychan in the early 13th century. The site identified is that of a ridge, part of which has been isolated by the construction of cross ditches – and this has then been extrapolated to represent a motte and/or castle. I’m not convinced. The northern side may have partially slipped away, which would make a more regular site, but there are other sites in the vicinity which also look possible on LIDAR, and by the 16th century the manorial centre was at Bryn Ffanigl Issa, rather than Uchaf. The site is used for agriculture so permission should be sought to access it.
