Brougham Castle Details

Brougham Castle is a stone keep and courtyard castle occupying a spit of high land overlooking the River Eamont next to a Roman fort. It was founded c1203 and strengthened c1309, before being gentrified in the 16th century. It was badly damaged in the Civil War and fell into disrepair after 17th century refurbishment.
