Boughrood Motte

Boughrood Castle is shown on the earliest Ordnance Survey as having been a clearly demarcated ditched motte, perhaps with an associated bank. There was no suggestion of a bailey, but it is likely that the farm occupies the site of this. During landscaping works to accommodate modern farm buildings, it appears that much of the earthworks have been removed, but the image from Google Maps Street view suggests that the central mound is still there, albeit reduced in height. Permission must be sought if you wish to explore further.
