Armadale Castle is a ruined baronial mansion built in the early 19th century, redesigned to the design of James Gillespie Graham about 15 years later and then extended in the mid 19th century to a David Bryce design after a fire. It is an important example of baronial architecture, and was built on the site of earlier mansions of the Macdonalds of Sleat. The family moved out in 1925, and the building was sold to a trust. Parts have been renovated and are in use as a visitor centre for the Clan Donald Centre and the Museum of the Isles, other parts have had to be demolished. It is open to the public for a fee.
