Aberuchill Castle is within a small privately owned estate in upland Strathearn centred around the much extended 16th century tower erected by the Campbells after they were granted the lands in the late 16th century. Previously the area had been held by the MacGregors, although there is no suggestion they built a castle here.

The tower was extended by the Campbells of later generations, who eventually sold up to James Drummond of Strageath, whose family extended the castle further and remodelled the inside extensively. A further extension was added by the Dewhurst family in the 1870s. The castle remains in private hands and is not open to the public.
