Aberffraw was one of the principal seats of the Princes of Gwynedd during the 13th century and probably well before that. There was almost certainly a llys-type manorial complex here, and there are suggestions in the documentary records that suggest there may have been a motte. The location is conjectural, but is the main market square of the village.
